A much-needed book, the first to address long-term recovery issues, that picks up where AA's classic 'Big Book' leaves off.

Almost all recovering people "get stuck" at some point during thier recovery. This is the first book specifically about "getting unstuck" – overcoming the obstacles and emotional barriers that can threaten sobriety and serenity.

Sober, but Stuck is a collection of honest, strait-from-the-heart, personal stories by men and women who are long-time members of Alcoholics Anonymous. It is about the tools they found – Twelve Step Program resources, as well as other kinds of help – and the risks and actions they took to break through the barriers that limited their enjoyment of a sober life.

A survey by the author / compiler identified what many people believe to be the ten most common obstacles to successful recovery:

• fear of intimacy
• the need to control others
• fear of rejection or abandonment
• unhealthy, dependent relationships
• anxiety and panic
• isolation or lonliness
• depression
• feelings of inadequacy
• fear of failure
• resentments

Each story is an example of one of these recovery issues – or deals with other stumbling blocks: anger, dificulty in relating to parents, being critical or judgemental, inability to maintain friendships, financial insecurity, dissatisfaction with work situations, obsessive sexual activity, or fear of people and social situations.

Sober, but Stuck takes its cue from the approach used successfully by thousands in AA the world over – people learning, changing and staying sober through thier willingness to share their struggles and triumphs with each other.
